Lady Eagles would be hosting rival faith after being on the road for 7 out of the past 8 games. With all players on deck there were no excuses going into the match and the girls were ready to go. It was a sight to see as Emmaus seized control early in the first set making great digs and excellent hitting. The Ladies seemed to be walking away with an easy one as the score was 20-13 but soon after Faith climbed right back in it bringing the game all the way to 24-24. However the Eagles finished with two strong plays to close out the first set.
“We have been struggling with our blocking this year and it finally started to come together as girls were getting many touches and blocks. You make the game a heck of a lot easier on your defense when you are slowing down those hits, “Coach Strautmann had to say. This match was far from over as the teams prepared mentally for game 2. Game 2 was a back and forth battle as both teams traded points the entire match all the way to point 25. There was not a dull moment in this set as the teams were always 2-3 points from one another. Emmaus spirits were high, the crowd was loud, and all the momentum was with the Home team going into game 3.
As expected Faith came out strong not going down without a fight. They led nearly the entire set and at one point the score was 17-21 with things not looking too bright on the Emmaus corner. With a few aces, great hustle, and well placed balls the Ladies shut down Faith the rest of the way winning 25-21. “To win in front of the home crowd in the way the girls did meant so much to them and to us as coaches. They truly became a team tonight; it was an amazing thing to watch, “concluded Coach Strautmann. Emmaus would now prepare for an alumni showdown on Friday and a rematch against Kuyper that the Ladies were anticipating.
