Emmaus would now have another chance to take down Kuyper as they had lost a tough one in 5 games earlier in the season. You wouldn’t think it by the scores, but this was a tight one all the way through. Both teams came crashing out of the starting gate as it was close for most of the first set. However, between solid play from Kuyper and a few miscues from Emmaus; Kuyper closed out the first game 16-25. Game 2 was the highlight of the match as the Emmaus Eagles not only came out with a victory (25-23) but performed at a higher level than most if not all their matches before. “We were closing the blocks, making digs, and everyone was making smart decisions. You can be the hardest hitter on the team but if you do not know when NOT to swing then you are not an effective hitter, “Coach Strautmann added. And effective they were as the Ladies were hitting all spots on the court in Game 2.
Game 3 started in similar fashion and the Emmaus Eagles looked like they would run away with another one, but Kuyper would not go away as they were digging nearly everything the Lady Eagles sent over (22-25). Things were beginning to look familiar as the previous match against Kuyper the Eagles slowly faded out of the game. Kuyper made it difficult for the Emmaus blockers sending them every which way. The Lady Eagles made a hard push at the end of game 4 but it was too little too late (14-25). “It is exciting seeing the improvement on all aspects of the girls’ game, but at some point we have to say were going to beat these teams rather than just be competitive, “concluded Coach Strautmann. Emmaus would have a couple practices and a scrimmage against Clarke in order to prepare for the long weekend ahead.
